To continue the virus theme we have a readers opinion on preventing viruses from propagating themselves using your Outlook email. It may be a little technical for some of you but give it a shot if you feel confident enough.

I read your newsletter and had a thought about helping to prevent virus attacks. Tell people to shut OFF the Windows Scripting Host, which by default is turned ON when Windows is installed. With the host disabled, vbs scripts cannot automatically run. Add to that the disabling of the preview pane in Outlook and that is about as well protected as you can be without having an antivirus program and not opening attachments!

Here are the steps needed from your desktop:

Start ->
Settings ->
Control Panel ->
Add/Remove Programs ->
Click on the Windows Setup tab ->
Double click on the Accessories option ->
Scroll all the way to the bottom and deselect the Windows Scripting Host.
Click apply and it may or may not prompt you to insert your Windows CD.
You may or may not have to reboot for the changes to take effect
